We woke up this morning to our first snow! While the weatherman originally predicted 1-3″ (which I was expecting later in the day) we are going to end up with 6-8″ when it’s all said and done… AND we and woke up to a good 3″ on the ground already. Blaire was SO excited when she saw it out the back door. She could barely sit still to eat her breakfast before layering up in all of her snow gear.

For the longest time, I had no bedside table. Jason’s bedside table matches our formal bedroom set, but I wanted something more fun… and thanks to Pinterest, I settled on simple, white cubes. They were inexpensive and I love how versatile they are!

This weather has us looking for reasons to be outside. Last night’s reason? Crafting! Blaire was SO excited when I told her she could paint. We both love flowers, so I’ve been planting more in the back yard this Summer. My dad bought us some Monkey Face Orchid seeds (Seriously! They look like monkey faces. You can see them here.) so I wanted to make a sentimental flower pot to plant them in. I bought a clay pot for less than $5, some washable kids paint and then just used a paint brush we had laying around the house. I placed a little of each paint color on a paper plate and let Blaire go to town. She was surprisingly good with the paint brush! She loved mixing the colors together and was so particular about which colors she wanted to use each time she dipped her paint brush.
Most of the time, the things I get excited about are practical and small. New towels for the kitchen. New dish soap. New baskets to organize
anything the living room. You get the point. It’s stupid, but being excited about practical things means you’re an adult. And my newest favorite (AND PRACTICAL) thing in the world? This Holster Brands Hot Iron Holster.
Our backyard is one of our favorite places to be in the Spring and Summer. For me, I’m happy to just sit out on the deck with a book. For Blaire, she needs a little more to keep her entertained. Toddlers… so needy. ;)
I was looking around our backyard the other night and realized every. single. thing. in our yard is Little Tikes. (FYI, This post is NOT SPONSORED, we just happen to love them!) Some items have been hand-me-downs, while others are new. And some of these hand-me-downs are 5+ years old and are still in amazing condition. I love that outdoor toys can be used forever! Some of them have been ours for more than one summer and she still finds them fun. (Photos below from Summer 2016 and Summer 2015 for proof) so it makes it easier to invest in them, knowing they aren’t going to be old news in a month or two.
Our weather has been perfect the past few weeks. We’ve spent weekends outside, at the pool and grilling. I think it helps Blaire (which helps us!) fall asleep faster every night. But, with the warmer temps come bugs and sun. And with all of the posts you see calling out the scary ingredients in everything these days, anytime I see something that’s natural and has good reviews, I have to try it.
I LOVE Spring! The transition from the brutal Iowa winter to a beautiful Iowa Spring is the best! I’m so lucky to have moved into a house with a beautifully landscaped backyard. Both of my favorite flowers are back there: Peonies and Hydrangeas. Right now just the peonies are blooming. Our fuschia Peony bush has WAY more flowers than the white. As you can see, we’ve enjoyed lots of pretty blooms in the house, and Blaire even picked a bunch to take to her daycare lady (and a bloom for daddy!). Hopefully I’ll remember to plant some Tulip bulbs this fall so I have some Tulips, too! When your flowers are this pretty, you HAVE to take pictures of them. CONTINUE READING
